Whenever I travel to Milan, I like to stay at the Hotel Principe Di Savoia. Quintessentially Italian with luxurious interiors and slightly chaotic service, the hotel is a landmark meeting place not too far from the iconic Duomo and central fashion district. In recent times, I have through various commitments been back and forth to the hotel and though I am rarely greeted as a frequent customer or with any semblance of recognition, I always like to return for the luxurious bedrooms and scrumptious La Dolce Vita decor.
On a recent visit, I decided to try out the hotel spa with its nice roof top pool and freshen up with a facial. The treatment rooms located just off the main spa reception aren’t anything special, although the array of Acqua di Parma products and beautifully packaged skin care ranges make for interesting browsing. The staff however are exuberant and friendly with Italian warmth and charm.
As I had been entertaining till the early hours the night before, my body felt dehydrated and heavy with fatigue and so the choice of a Comfort zone Hydra memory facial seemed both necessary and enticing. My therapist, a lovely Italian lady called Gaia was one of Hotel Principe Di Savoia’s top masseuses which is important because if you want to get a top revitalizing facial you need to book the best masseuse. Not only do they know the contours of your face intimately, but they know how to kick start the lymphatic drainage nodes at the back of your neck which when properly activated, allow your organs and liver to detox quicker, removing all the nasty radicals accumulated in your skin. With heart shaped strokes, my face was cleansed and restored in no time. My skin she noted was ‘drinking’ the lotion which made me feel a whole lot better that I had found the time to squeeze a facial into my hectic itinerary. I was starting to feel so good on the treatment table, that I wished I had booked a leg massage, having walked the streets of Milan in heels the night before, but alas time was not on my side and all too soon the treatment came to an end.
On this occasion, there was no offer of a relaxation room or spa aperativo, but I was sent on my way with lots of free skin care samples and a brochure reminding me of the need to drink more water … as well as a effusive and heartfelt Arrivederci.
