Mani & Pedi at the Dorchester Spa London

Dorechester Spa

Dorchester SpaWith only 24 hours in London while on route to LA, I stopped off in the Dorchester Spa for an emergency mani & pedi having parked myself in the hotel for the night. The Dorchester located in the heart of Mayfair, is part of the luxurious Dorchester collection and includes many swish 5 star establishments like the Hotel Principe di Savoia, in Milan which readers you may recall I recently reviewed!

The  Dorchester Spa is chic and glamorous and offers a selection of treatments and an option for lunch at the Spatisserie if you want to make a day out of it. The entrance includes a shimmering chandelier with a mix of cream and silver furnishings for extra bling as well as enthusiastic and charming staff to assist.

Dorchester SpaThe mani and pedi treatment room resembled a glass trophy room with all homage being given to the vast array of Opi colours neatly organised in vertical lines to marvel at. I am a nail polish lacquer lover – no chemical shellac for me – and so I indulged myself while selecting a colour from the frivolously named bottles – ‘To the Mouse House we go’; ‘Strawberry Margherita’ and seductively “An affair in Red Square”… but I was flying west and needed something smart and fun for the Californian beaches and so eventually settled on ‘Danke Shiny Red’ – a blend of red and burgundy for matching nails and toes.

A fellow guest was already seated contentedly waiting for her nails to dry and while my manicurist was busy, we struck up a conversation about her eye popping, hard to miss, canary yellow crocodile leather Chanel handbag. It was a rare and exotic piece and as she patted it gently with her newly painted talons, she whispered to me that it had taken quite some time to order and procure. Feasting my eyes on such a colossal, I could only imagine that Madame Coco herself had risen from the grave to create it for her. My only regret being now that I didn’t photograph it… but alas it was time for canary yellow to depart and so my mani began in earnest.

Dorchester SpaAn hour and a half later my treatment was still going on. I was now at the foot basins for my pedi and while each toe was being expertly prepared, I was beginning to wonder if I would ever leave. This was a pedi for the gods and the care and attention being applied to each toe was meticulous. I happen to like my feet and if asked what is the favourite part of my body, I will always say without hesitation my feet. Right now, they were being indulged on a scale incomparable to their regular treatments. But the clock was ticking and I had a call to make and eventually I had to gently urge my pedicurist to complete the play.

Dorchester SpaOff out of the salon I went in my white complimentary Dorchester Spa flipflops, my time of indulgence now over and the minutes ticking down to get to my call. It was at that moment that I stubbed my big toe and smudged my toe nail between the mahogany elevator door and the spa reception area. My expletives were unrepeatable. Later that evening as a friend joined me in the David Tang restaurant for dinner, I showcased my Dorchester flipflops, not to make a fashion statement but to ensure no further damage to the diligently applied Danke Shiny Red.
