Manju Pattabi Jois is one of the most experienced teachers of Ashtanga yoga in the world and as the son of the Sri K. Pattabi Jois the renowned guru of Ashtanga Yoga Tradition, he has been practicing yoga since the age of seven. Manju has been coming to Dublin annually for many years and his workshops are typically full, drawing a large crowd of yoga practitioners. When I was just starting out in yoga as a beginner, I attended one such workshop and remember being genuinely inspired by his wise and learned approach. Last week, he held a 5 day workshop in ashtanga.ie and though my schedule was tight, I managed to sign up for one morning of mysore practice, pranayama (breath) and chanting. I cannot help but pick up Lindbergh’s timeless classic ‘Gifts from the Sea’ and find the book a calming read. My small pocket sized edition is printed on thick creamy paper and has been on my desk for many years. We have traveled North for a week in the country. Our beautiful accommodation Moorfield Lodge sits at the edge of a forest looking out over a field of buttercups and white clover. With only 24 hours to spare on a hot and humid day at the peak of the Summer, I decided to unwind with a Citrus scented facial at the spa at the Urso Hotel Madrid in the center of the city. Despite a mix up in my appointment times, the hotel reception were kind and accommodating and were thankfully able to find me a slot in the busy spa schedule. The spa located at basement level includes a Hamman, a Hydrotherapy pool as well as 3 treatment rooms and is a cool place to relax at the end of the day.
